In a press release from the Premier’s Office on November 21, 2024, the Ontario government has announced that starting in 2025, employers in the province will be rebating money back to safe employers, keeping premiums down for businesses, and investing in health and safety initiatives to build a stronger, safer Ontario. Here's what was announced:
2 Billion in Rebates for Safe Businesses
Eligible employers will start receiving one-time WSIB rebates in February 2025. For a small construction business with 50 employees, this could mean rebates of up to $46,000.
Lower Premium Rates, Bigger Savings
Starting in 2025, WSIB premiums will drop to $1.25 per $100 of insurable payroll — the lowest rate in 50 years. This cut will save businesses an estimated $150 million annually.
$400 Million for Health and Safety Programs
Enhancing mental health support, preventative care, and recovery services for workers. This includes expanding partnerships with 11 public hospitals to ensure workers get timely and accessible care.
Supporting Skilled Trades Apprentices
By removing the $150 fee for first-time Certificate of Qualification exams, the government is making it easier to kickstart careers in the trades.
New $1,000 Safe Business Bonus
Starting in 2025, businesses creating a WSIB-approved workplace health and safety action plan will earn a bonus, building on the $68 million in rebates the WSIB’s Health and Safety Excellence program has already delivered since 2019.
